On May 27, 2026, the Linux Foundation AI & Data announced DNS-AID — an open-source protocol that enables AI agents to authenticate identities, discover one another, and communicate securely through a distributed name resolution system.
This is not just another open-source project. This is DNS for the agentic web era — the foundational infrastructure layer that every AI agent of the future will rely on to know "who is who" and "who can do what."
And this time, Vietnam's developer community can be in from round one.
What Is DNS-AID — and Why Does It Matter?
Imagine this: you have 5 AI agents running on 3 different platforms (Hermes Agent, Claude Code, Google Agent Executor). How does agent A know agent B is real, not an impostor? How does agent B know agent A has permission to access customer data?
Right now — there's no way. Each agent lives in its own silo, with no shared trust mechanism. This is the biggest barrier preventing AI agents from working together at Internet scale.
DNS-AID solves this. It defines a distributed registry (built on W3C Decentralized Identifiers and Verifiable Credentials) where every agent registers its identity. Other agents can look it up, verify it, and decide whether to trust it — just like DNS for websites, but for AI agents.
DNS-AID Architecture: Uses DIDs (Decentralized Identifiers) and VCs (Verifiable Credentials) following W3C standards. The Linux Foundation maintains a global root of trust, but subdomains can be delegated — similar to how DNS zones work. This means: Vietnam can absolutely operate its own DNS-AID zone.
Python SDK and MCP Server Integration — Why Developers Should Care
DNS-AID isn't just a spec. It has working code available today:
Python SDK (dns-aid-py): Published on PyPI with pip install dns-aid. Supports DID registration, agent identity resolution, issuing and verifying verifiable credentials, and looking up agents by capability. A Vietnamese developer can integrate DNS-AID into their project in under 30 minutes.
MCP Server: DNS-AID functions as a Model Context Protocol (MCP) resource provider. Any MCP-compatible AI agent (including Claude Code, agents running on Hermes Agent) can ask: "Is agent X allowed to access service Y?" and receive a verified answer. This is the killer feature for the agentic web.

During a meeting with Vietnam's Ministry of Science and Technology in March 2026, Google DeepMind leadership delivered a sobering assessment:
"Vietnam has strong talent and growing infrastructure, but the ecosystem is still trapped in 'AI hype' — too many demo projects, too few production deployments. The community needs to move from using AI as a buzzword to building reliable, trustworthy agents and services."

This warning highlights a core issue: Vietnam's AI community excels at building demos but falls short when it comes to production-ready, interoperable systems. DNS-AID is part of the answer — it provides the trust and discovery layer that any production agent system needs.
DeepMind also specifically emphasized open-source interoperability as a strategic direction for Vietnam — and DNS-AID was cited as a positive example.
Opportunities for Vietnamese Developers: 3 Actions You Can Take Today
This time, the opportunity is concrete:
1. Contribute code and documentation. DNS-AID is still young. The spec is in draft stage. The SDK needs better documentation, code examples, and tests. The repositories dns-aid/spec and dns-aid-py are open for pull requests. Vietnamese developers can contribute right now — Vietnamese localization, examples for SMB businesses, integrations with popular platforms in Vietnam.
2. Build real-world applications for the Vietnamese market. Imagine this: a Shopee buying agent needs to authenticate with a logistics agent. A Vietnamese company's CRM agent needs to communicate securely with its accounting agent. All of it can use DNS-AID. The first person to build a real use case for the Vietnamese market will have first-mover advantage.
3. Join the Linux Foundation community in Vietnam. LF AI & Data Day 2025 in Ho Chi Minh City featured DNS-AID. Follow-up meetups are being planned. Join now — before the standard freezes and the window for influence closes.
Lessons from open-source history: Kubernetes launched in 2014. Docker Compose in 2015. Vietnamese developers who started learning Kubernetes in 2017 were already 3 years behind. DNS-AID launched in May 2026. The Python SDK is available. The MCP server runs. Now is the time to get involved — not next year.
